: I originally posted that my horse had a P3 fracture, but I met with my vet yesterday to go over the Xrays again. It is the side bone (medial) that has fractured. My vet said he didn't think eggbars were necessary, just a wedge underneath and strong clips on the back of the shoe to keep the foot from expanding too much. At first I felt encouraged that it wasn't the coffin bone itself, but then after talking to my farrier, he said that his experience with side bone is that you can try all kinds of fancy shoeing, but maybe it will heal and maybe it won't, and that most importantly is time. I am having to use a new farrier as my old one has pretty much gone out of the business do to lack of time. Any imformation you can give me on dealing with this would be much appreciated. Is it difficult because it is a calcification that has broken off? My horse is due for a refitting. Thank you!

Kitty, I've always floated the quarters inline and under the area of the fracture. Regular barshoe or eggbar what ever your choice! I would limit movement for a few weeks so that concussion is reduced, and clips are good don't know if I'd use a wedge?? Good Luck! Gary
