: : I have been scratching me head over the last few years on the problems and cures or should I say treatment of navicular disease. I have been using another method of shoeing these types involving the use of VETTEC's product Equithane clear hoof pack. This stuff is wonderful to say the least. I can shoe the horse with the regular wedge or swelled heel and still get the frog pressure needed to stop the contraction and to increase the blood in the affected feet without having to use a pad which only aids in the destruction of the foot. I shoe the horse as you normally would increase the angle with the use of a wedge or swelled heel but this puts the frog further away from the ground surface thus resulting with no pressure, thus leading to atrophy of the frog which is directly related to expansion of the foot. When shoeing is complete I tape of the back of the foot so the poured in material does not go out the back of the foot. Then fill the foot until it is level with the ground surface, place a piece of heavy plastic on it. Put the foot down proceed with the other foot. By the time it is complete the first foot is cured take off the plastic and tape sprinkle with baby powder so nopthing sticks to it. If you are having trouble with a navicular horse try this when all of the other conventional methods have failed it has been working great for me.

: Thanks for the idea. Will try it on a horse this friday.

Great idea, I have tried it and I like it alot. Does anyone know if there is any possibility of damage occuring internaly in the foot by having pressure constantly on the sole? I also saw a great tip at a clinic......use an adhesive foam pad on the bottom of the shoe then squirt the stuff in. I think Vettec provides them, I can get them from our Farrier Supplier in our location.
