: I have just started hoeing a barrel horse who has been lame for six monts. The owner asked my thoughts i told him, he talked to the vet and was told I was right on the money and to start riding the horse ASAP. I am shoeing this hore with an egg bar set 1/4" off the toe and leaving the base of support just past the bulbs, i finished the shoeing job and the mare was ridden away with no signs of dis-comfort! Eventually (as soon as possible) the owner want to start running drums again (I think this is possible) but not with that base os support being back so far so... Can anyone give me any ideas for this situation, I think I can shortin the heels of the bar a bit and get away with it but im not sure. Also the owner would like to have a rim shoe on her, can I make a bar out of a rim shoe???
: Thanks

Tim,
Just my thinking. But I would suggest to this owner that she find something else for the horse to do.
