: My wife's horse requires quite a bit of elevation for comfort for his navucular problems. He is wearing a four degree and a three degree pad plus a Redden Rail shoe. This makes him considerably better but is quite heavy. What are some of the lightest weight pads you use out there?
I do not like using pads for navicular horses because pads have a tendency to let moisture into the foot. It is best to let the foot be natural and let mother nature take care of the problem; but navicular as we know is a serious thing. The thing I use is Jim Keith Navicular shoes, this way I do not have to worry about pads or wedges or egg-bar shoes. This way I know that a horse will wear better and it is easier for the client to keep clean.
