: I was wanting to know ( a ball park figure) of how much a farrier, just out of school in May of 2003 might expect to earn in southern Ohio. Client base would have to be built up. No regular client base yet.

Well, in my case... when I first started out... if a guy came too close to me with a Billy Goat I offered to trim it.
It has to do with how much you want to beat the bushes and how fast you can dust yourself off after failure... because people WILL dog you for being new and inexperienced. But I never gave those htings much thought. I just knew I had to get work or starve.
I jumped in with both feet. .. quit my job before I went to school and never looked back.
I lost quite a bit of weight....slept in my truck a lot... skimped on EVERYthing....except the quality of my work and my appearance. No one ever knew I shaved by my reflection in another car's hubcaps (my truck didn't have any and I don't recommend using the rearview mirror... ... too many knicks that way) or that I'd spent the night in a park with my feet sticking out of the passenger window...
And here's one for you:

It's not how much you earn.
It's how much you KEEP.

Good luck.
