: I have an Arabian mare that trys to kick when Itry to trim her back feet.Someone suggested a dutch hobble.I have an equine restraint called a Stableizer could someone tell me what a dutch hobble is and their views on its use versus astableizer?

Does she also try to kick when the owner cleans out her hoofs? If so, then this is a sign the owner is NOT cleaning those hoofs on a daily basis! Why should you be getting under a horse that the owner won't even clean out the hoofs?

The horse needs to be trained to stand, period.

I answered this one many times on horse discussion groups, and I've made a webpage to answer this one:
http://vo.cnchost.com/horses/10steps.html

Print this out and give it to the owner. Don't work on this horse again unless the owner is willing to pay you for "training". To figure your training fee, calculate how long it takes you to trim well behaved horses, and thus how many horses you can do in an hour. Your hourly training rate is how much you would get paid to trim "an hour's worth" of horses. For instance, if you can trim a horse in 20 minutes, and you normally get paid $20 to trim a horse, then your hourly rate is $60 an hour. Don't do hourly work for less than this!

I hope that helps!
