: : I have an Arabian mare that trys to kick when Itry to trim her back feet.Someone suggested a dutch hobble.I have an equine restraint called a Stableizer could someone tell me what a dutch hobble is and their views on its use versus astableizer?
: While I have not heard of a dutch hobble, there is a "devise" called the scotch hobble and that may be what was being referred to. Personally I won' work on a horse that needs this kind of restraint. I have used the stabilizer devise and find that when it works it works well, but it does not work for all horses.
: My suggestion is that you tell the owner to get the horse trained to stand for the procedure and until that occurs, only trim the fronts. Or, let the owner pay to have the vet there to chemically restrain the horse while you work. Or, just drop this client and pick up one who has a safe horse to work on.
