: No tool or contraption can ever work properly unless the person is trained in using it correctly. I think anyone who needs to resort to using chains, hobbles, big bits..ect. should learn a thing or two about horses and start using the tools that we all have.. our hands and our heads, I see few trainers use their hands and heads anymore.. if they think a quick jerk to the head is the trick to solving a problem, then maybe they should go get some retraining huh? Your horse is having a new exprience with shoes, just pic his feet up a lot, rub his legs and show him it's alright. To pick up the front legs, pinch the chestnut.. see how that works? What 'works' and what doesn't 'work' all depends on the person. If you can't make your hands and your mind work, then I suggest you don't try to make chains or "novel nose bands" 'work.
This is just your opinion. I WANT MY HORSE TO OBEY, It doesn't matter how one does it as long as the end result is the same.
