: : Hello,
: : I am wondering what your collective learned opinions are on the pros/cons of the different types of acrylics, puttys and fillers. I am trying to decide what product would work best for a mule that chipped out the very center of his toe, after being trimmed, the size of the chip is equal to a quarter. I put shoes on to prevent further chipping am going back to fill chip tomorrow. Thanks for the info in advance!!

: Lori,
: If it's only cosmetic, why not just leave the shoes on until it grows out and apply Keratex Hoof Hardner a couple times per week.
If the owner insists on filling the area, either Equithane Superfast Set or Equilox will work........these are the two products that I use. They both can be very successful and both can be a complete failure....either way, use more than you need and don't be too concerned about making it pretty...that only weakens the repair
: Both require proper preparation and clean, DRY conditions for success.....a cooperative animal is a plus, but what are the odds when you are dealing with the "long ears" :)
: Good Luck

If it were just cosmetic..I probably would just leave it alone, however it's deep and although the mule is in no pain; I'm concerned that foreign matter will get inside and create a problem. Plus, there has been extensive flooding in my area and his feet are fairly soft so I'm a little concerned that even with shoes he could still manage to chip more. Thankfully this mule is a sweetheart and is worked with quite allot. So applying the stuff shouldn't be a problem!! :) Thanks for the info... Lori
