: I would like to use an adhesive to glue on an aluminum plate, coxton poly or flex step. Have had poor results with vettec superfast, adhere, and bovibond, even when applied meticulously. Have had the same results using Hoof-it acrylic. Have tried steel, aluminum and marithons. Does anything really work for a reasonable time, or am I just falling for company hype? Thanks. A. B. Bovibond is the forerunner of Superfast. In fact, those of us who used the Bovibond, when they were looking for a name for the new stuff, voted for "MOO Glu" . I have used, quiute successfully, these products. The superfast may be too fast to use during this hot weather unless you keep it cooled down right up to the time it is applied. And even then you have to be really fast. I have also successfully used the MMA's(Equilox, Grand Circut, etc). their set time is slower and requires the horse to be still and steady for longer than many are willing to be. Geenerally, with the aluminum shoes, I pull clips, drill out the nail holes with a large diameter drill bit(gives the adhesive more to grab onto), and go to work. Are you using the spacers on the shoes? they really are necessary to insure that when the shoe is pressed onto the foot, it is not pressed so much that all the adhesive is pushed out from under the shoe. Also, once you put the shoe to the foot, you can't move it around(with the Vettec products), or they will not set up and adhere correctly.
You should also pose your questions and problems on the Vettec bulletin board here on this site, in the P & S bb section. You will get truely good answers, information and help.
I have not yet used the Vettec products on the Polysteel shoes or other plastic shoes. But , based on conversations with other farriers who have, I anticipate no real problems getting them to adhere to the feet.
