: : : : : : I am looking at puchasing a hollow Core Anvil from MFC. Has anyone had any luck with these?? Any help would be great.
: : : : : : Thank you

: : : : : I've heard only bad about MFC.

: : : : Great thank you, can you suggest a good quality anvil for every day use Please.
: : : : Thank you
: : : : Wade
: : : Although I've not personally used any MFC products, I
: : : wouldn't base my actions on statements or opinions from
: : : people who've "heard" things. You need to hear from people
: : : who've actually used MFC products. For years I heard "real"
: : : farriers say that only GE tools were good. I tried them,
: : : and they are good. But then I tried Diamond, and truth be
: : : told, they were pretty good too. And much less expensive.
: : : Now I use tools from a couple different companies, including
: : : GE, Diamond and Mustad. I think I'll be trying MFC soon.

: : Thank you for the input, I think I am going to purchase one in Canada as that is where I am from. Even though the exchange rate is better it still costs about $100 to have it shipped up here.
: : Have a great day

: Contact the shoeing school in Edmonton Alberta he has a good supply and has his ear to the ground when it comes to whats good and not I belive his name there is Dennis (bad memory must be getting old lol)he may have a way for you to get some of this stuff a little cheaper too
: The only issue I have come up with about hollow cores for those that live in states or provinces that can 90 degrees one day and 10 the next is I would be affraid that the anvil could be brittle if not taken care of properly cool down to fast but in todays market I think that the qualty of all things are fairly simular I think the difference is in design and what ever works for you is what should be looked at The opionion of the others should be looked at for how the unit is used and what is the enviroment it is used in California has different needs and climate that us here in Minnesota as you do in Canada how you shoeing rig is set up is another If you client base is all shoes and you have to move this in and out of your truck 20 times then a lighter would be good but if you have a trailer where it sits and not moves well you get the point
: Just get the largest you can afford and able to get the job done turning a draft shoe on a 70 pound anvil is challenging

I would add here that a hoolow-core anvil will ring at a higher decimal. So we all know we need to wear ear protection, You better not forget it with this anvil. May help to tighten it down some way when you set up, possibly sitting on some deading material. But if you like a ringing anvil, this is it.
