: : : Again, Phil, you are comparing apples with oranges. If I were to do the trim every farrier I have ever seen does, it would only take me 15 minutes. It is precisely because what we do is different that it takes longer and we charge more for it (although there is one farrier not too far from me who charges more than I do for his pasture trim and leaves horses in a lot of pain from too much hoof).

: : : Horses with incorrect hoof form and/or damage in the hooves, or sound horses who live on soft ground and have not been conditioned to rocks, will not be sound and will require hoof protection to be used on rocks. For those owners who are willing to go the extra mile, the Strasser Method is available.

: : : I will be in Maine the first week in October. Where are you located? If you are not too far away, I will be more than happy to meet with you and see your idea of a barefoot trim. I can then explain to you what I would do differently and why.

: : : Anne

: : OK, tell me what you do.

: I will be in southern Maine not the first, but the second week in October and will be free probably on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 7 and 8. If you are trimming, not shoeing, any horses on those days, I would be more than happy to meet up with you (your clients willing and the location not too far) and, as I said, I can watch what you do and then tell you what I would do differently and why.

: I am going to be in Maine because I am bringing my mother's ashes up for a family closure ceremony, so my free time will be limited, but I could arrange that if someone can lend me a car.

: Let me know if that fits your schedule. It may be you have no interest in such an arrangement. That is fine with me, also.

: Anne

Anne, Sorry about your mother, I mean that. I hope all is well in your family. If you want to ride with me that is fine with me. You will have to provide your owne transportation and be at my house by 8:00, you can either ride with me or follow me around and depart when you feel like it, my customers will not mind. Oct. 7 I will be Trimming 7 horses and shoeing one at the end of the day Front and hind, home by 6:00. The 8th I will be doing at least 2 horses Front shoes, 1 front and hind and 2 trims. I have a dentist apointment at 3:00 so I will need to be home by 2:00. E-mail me if your interested and we will go from there. I am always open to suggestions.

Phil
