: Looking for some input on some nasty feet. I've two horses (Appy,& QH) that I work on and they have absolutely the worst Hoof wall integrity I've seen in my 6 short years of shoeing. Both have managed to keep the shoes on just short of the six week cycle however when I went back yesterday I don't know if they'll hold. The wall on both horses seems not to grow much at all, and is crumbling (for lack of a better term). Looked for what would indicate WLD or some foreign matter causing the condition but not sure that I saw anything that unusual except the moist nasty horn. Might help if I knew exactly what to look for. Is this a case of too much moisture (hasn't rained all that much) or is there possibly some bacteria causing the condition. Told the owners that to start feeding a supplement with Biotin wouldn't be a bad idea. If it's some bacteria, any recommendations on a treatment regimen?
: P.S.Anybody ever heard of putting Vaseline on the hooves as a Conditioner?
: Thanks folks
: Jim

On these type feet I usually handmake the shoes so I can punch the nails where I want them and hot fit the shoes. Good Luck! Gary
