: : : : : : I noticed in foot notes that pattern plates for shoe display board are available. Does this mean that we must match this pattern exactly or just general shape? Also $40.00 seams a little high for something that you might only use once.

: : : : : If you use the pattern plates you must match them exactly.
: : : : : The plates came into existance because there was so much confusion among many candidates as to what was required.
: : : : : As a tester, I will be very interested to see if they help improve the quality of the shoe displays and the number of successful candidates.

: : : : Rick you said if you use the plates? Does that mean you have the option of matching the plates or using you own pattern? Im taking my certified tests in a couple of weeks and need to know so I dont waste mine or the testers time with the wrong patterns.
: : : : Thanks David

: : : Candidates are NOT required to use the pattern plates. It is an option that is available to you if you choose.
: : : From my experience as a member of the Education Committee and as a Tester, I can tell you that candidates who use a pattern plate or a specimen foot--rather than using shoes as patterns--tend to have better shoe displays.
: : : And, yes, some will think that $40 is pricey; it's almost like going out and buying a pair of aluminium eggbars or a Redden Rail. But... there are a couple of things that factor into this... 1) it's not a high production/volume item for a manufacturer to produce, 2) it's a voluntary purchase, 3) the plates are going to see some rough use. They'll get clamped in vises and have a lot of hot shoes put on them, etc. etc. Subsequently, the quality has to be good so that people won't have warped or irregular plates, and 4) the plates have to be produced in a consistent, quality manner so that people won't get patterns where the frog, white line, and bars are not distinctly imprinted.
: : : Spend the $40. Make a great shoe board. Take the plates with you to the certification. When your shoe board passes, sell the plates for $35 to someone who's still got this requirement left.
: : : ~~Danvers
: : Thanks Danvers I was just wondering about the plates and like you said I agree that with the plates you will have a better shoe board. As for the price its a business expense and can be used a long time or like you said sold to the next guy. I got to see the plates while at school while you were at the clinic at KHS in May. The plates are well detailed just like a real foot. This will make it much easier to make your modifactions correctly. They have a defined hoofwall, whiteline, bars, etc.
: : Thanks again
: Where can I see and get ahold of these plates?
: Frank
Frank you can call the AFA office to order a set .
