: : I have a 9 yr old quarter horse that is putting too much weight on her inside front feet. The outside is flaring out bad. The owner doesnt want to put shoes on to correct the problem, the owner wants me to fix the problem of getting the feet back to being symetrical with no flares. How can I do this without shoes? Do I take out more of the inside part of the sole around the bars? I dont know any advice would help. Thanks
: Well there is definatly a medial lateral balance issue here. If the feet are worn short and you cannot see what to do then I would tell the owner that it is neccassary to put on shoes and grow some foot so you can establish enough wall and sole to determine balance again. Otherwise have them get X-Rays so that you can do a better job, it is there choice what to spend there money on. I would not remove anymore wall and sole without knowing for sure what the medial lateral balance is. If they do not let you do what you think is right, then refer them to another farrier.

If you are convinced that this horse needs shoes to correct the problem, then don't let a cheap customer force you to do the horse a disservice....refer them to one of the FBC specialists and after they have emptied their bag of tricks and the horse is still not right, they will call you back
this should take several trims for them to see that you were right....just enough time to up your prices :)
......tired of cheap customers that already know all the answers, but can't seem to do right by their horses
