As per the rule book for the National Horse Show Commission (they govern the DQP program run by the the USDA) the rules for shoeing are as follows - Toe length must exceed the height of the heel by 1 inch or more The length of the toe shall be measred from the corenet band at the center of the front pastern along the front of the hoof wall to the ground. The heel shall be measured from the coronet bant at the most lateral portion of the rear pastern at a 90 degree angle to the ground not including normal caulks at the rear of the horseshoe. The shoe measurements are as follows - The Plantation shoe must no exceed 1/2 inch in thickness or 1 1/2 inches in width with no bare plat or other weight inside the shoe. The Caulk must not exceed a 1 inch turnback and the shoe must not extend more than 1/4 inch beyond the hoof at the toe. the heel of the shoe must not exten behold the bulb of the horses heel when a line is drown from the bulb of the horses heel to the ground. Hoof bands are allowed on these types of shoes - but not in the shoe ring. I know that the TWHBEA is working on changing the size of the plantation shoe to no more that 1 inch in width.

Just a little information for you!! I have my walking horses in 3/8 x 3/4 competative lite shod shoes with a 1' caulk they have a 4 1/4 " toe and a 3" heel my farrier has instructions to keep the feet sound first!
