I purchased a western pleasure quarter horse one month ago. She is a beauty,a but I've only been able to ride her one time. Right after I purchased her she lost a shoe (front) and about half of her hoof with it. Farrier said to keep her in her stall for six to eight weeks and purchase a rubber boot for the foot. Yep - the boot cost $30.00 and a week later she suffered the same thing with the other front foot - so another $30.00 and another boot. I keep her on a very thick bedding (sawdust), and have begun supplementing her 12% sweet feed with 1/2 cup of Calf Manna twice a day. It has been three weeks and her feet continue to chip even with the boots and the soft bedding.
My question - do hoof supplements REALLY work? I need to do something FAST.
Thanks.
