I wanted to post since before the first reply. But couldn't remember where I heard of it till now. Bernie Chapman had a case much like this, and even though seating out for sole pressure (even with a heart bar) found that the hoof wall was pressuring the coronary band cutting off the blood flow, therefore disabling hoof wall growth. The solution to the problem is to, before nailing the shoe on, releive the pressure point by filing the wall so that there will be a gap between the wall and the shoe, about an eight-3/16" gap for a couple of inches, or less, at the toe. Mr. Chapman said that, a short time after the horse is shod, you will be surprised to see the gap close somewhat, and, with the pressure releived from the coronary band re-establishing blood flow, and consequently hoof wall growth some time later.
