Have a mare that has been in my care over a year now. No problems during that time. Hooves are in better condition, p-1, p-2, p-3 are in alinement. Just a bit of droped sole. Mare was moving a long nice, collecting and extending better then when she first came to our barn over a year ago. She has been barehooved all that time. Owner tried breeding her last year but she did not settle, but no problems with the hooves while at the breeders last year. Different breeder this year.
Problem:
Mare was sent out a month ago for breeding. She had been trimmed about four weeks before. No problems witn in that four weeks after trimming. She then abcess two weeks ago. Abcess again this week at the breeders. I have not seen the mare yet.
They tell us that the feed, hay and pasture or about the same as at our place. Any ideas as to what mybe causing these abcesses?
Their vet is suggesting an open toe egg-bar shoe with full pads. I don't think that I should be putting full pads on the mare at this time. Reason, in case she abcesses again. Will suggest hospital plate. Any ideas?
