Steve just a couple thing I'm missing from the old format. The ability to review posts before posting.

A last post read button on threads.

Hoping you can do something about it

    Hi Sue,

I'm not Steve, but look next to the blue question mark in the "boardcode" section of the reply, over the smileys.. The two window looking icons all you to review your post before submitting.

Does anyone have any really cool way to get the horse hair out of the velcro straps on shoeing aprons? Thanks.

Pet shops have small brushes with very fine steel tines,it should clean the velcro easily.

    Thanks Christos.

I actually have a bunch of those, I'll give it a try. I'm thinking of one we use on the cats might just do the trick. I don't know why I didn't think of it.

  • I haven't an opinion. I have heard others speak highly of him.

Just a thought to add to your perspective - There are some great and talented people who post here, but there are hundreds of well known and talented others you never see here. A lot of them have posted at one time or another in the past. Many of us "internet farriers" (meself comes to mind) aren't really in the "great and talented" group. An internet presence doesn't really always mean much, except that the poster is interested, and has the desire to learn and share information.

Kind of got off topic there, Sorry.

    Steve,

I get it when I use the forum search tab. I get the search results, but I get the error when I try to go to one of the result topics. Once I get it the first time I continue to get it no matter what I try to do, until I clear history.

I just tried the site search box and everything worked fine. So I guess that's what I'll use from now on. Thanks.

It's an illusion. Look at where the top line and bottom line end. It's not a good representation of the hoof. ( I know the heel ends forward of the CB in a hoof ). But, measure the CB and the bottom of the hoof. Or better yet, shape a shoe to fit the foot, then slide it down the pastern to the CB. You could use the hoof "ring" you trim off for the same purpose. You will see that the bottom of the hoof is longer heel to heel than the top.

There is also evidence that new hoof growth takes place below the CB. ( I just don't feel like looking it up right now, maybe later.

I could be wrong - Especially in unusual cases. Club feet come to mind.

    Smitty,

Eric has stated that he didn't want to run a web site. Can't say that I blame him. He was just making a point that there is a better software alternative and format than Steve has gotten himself stuck with. (sorry about the dangling participle Mr B. ) Eric has done that very well, let's hope someone is listening. This forum has always been great, and can be great again. I think that was Eric's intention. I'll admit I thought he must be nuts to want to run a , instead of being a full time farrier. Even more nuts if he wanted to be both.

    Bruce,

So that would leave 5% that would probably be really good popcorn stories. Maybe sometime if you have time you could relate some of those, and what you learned from them.

I think it's easier to post pictures here than on the old site. The software is just generally awkward to use. I can make my way around ok, but it's far from "intuitive" to any would-be new users. One thing I think would help with the navigation would be to lose the automatic drop downs and require a click to drop them down. The roll over feature is a "bell and whistle" that is more aggravating than practical. As I try to mouse around the screen things are popping up and down everywhere, sometimes obscuring where I am trying to go. I don't know what the software limitations are, but the overall design could be neater and more intuitive.

I hate to say it, but compare the simplicity of Erics site. That's what is diluting the activity on Horseshoes.com. There is no real "learning curve". People can just log on ( and stay logged on ) and easily navigate, post, etc.

I think you've done a great job overcoming all the issues, but it looks like some of the issues are inherent in the platform, and we're just stuck with them. Others, like the design choices in format (like the drop downs) I'm guessing are just poor choices.

Great job on the albums Steve. Mine are there now under "My Photos". I'm not seeing the picture titles, but I guess I can live without that. Thanks for getting them back.
