Gabino nice job I have yet to find a crack that the dowel pin concept did not work on even when you have the sever bent tubulars like the new horse. As with all crack I think that the imbalance needs to be adressed first and for most.

  • I bill about 80% of my clients. I add a billing charge of $15 per horse if bill is not paid with in 15 days. I make sure that I know if a trainer is adding to the bill I was at a horse show shoeing a clients horse and the trainer sent her over to pay bill after she saw total she asked why the differance and why it was so much cheaper? She told me what her last bill was and I told her that I never charged that amount She told me that was the total every month. Come to find out the trainer was adding over $100 to every bill. That trainer no longers trains in our part of the country problem solved by billing clients my self. In the past 35 years (knock on wood) I have only only been cheated out of one shoeing bill.

  • mmhorseshoeing replied to the topic Re: Recommend hoof testers in the forum.
I have to agree that getting a set of testers to check a founder horse is not a very good Idea I think the horse will test sore in the toe.Now with that said I just got a pair of digital pressure read out testers from Texas Farrier Supplies and have some great results in my studies on heel pain and sole depth using these testers. They are a little pricey but well worth the investment.

Somehow you missed my sarcasms Jason threw out your career you will find out when people do not have a answers to the problem the will try to explain what they think went on. Sometimes the person on the receiving end of the information will miss interpret it. As in your case with the Vet and owner.

When shoeing a performance horse we need to remember the job they are asked to perform .As a farrier it is your job to make sure that the shoes are applied properly for that job. It is your responsibility to make sure that the horse does not interfere during the shoeing cycle even if someone new that has never ridden works the horse. Jason you big cry baby, man up it was your fault it will always be your fault. As a matter of fact everyone can blame you for problems that they have in their business. We will call it the Rotramel affect. Do you want some cheese with that wine?

Richard I think that you would be better off pulling your own clips on a set of front shoes if you can.

  • CTG it is very hard to do much diagnostic with the video you supplied the horses head is very seldom straight and the dog is in the view several times. Now with that said it looks like the horse is off in the right hind and still hard to tell where without a proper flexion test. I would have your vet do a flexion test to find out where the horse is off. When you know where the problem is located it will be a lot easier for people on this forum to give you help.

  • mmhorseshoeing replied to the topic Re: Shoes on the shop wall... in the forum.
That shoe was pulled off a horse that had a lacerated deep flexor tendon, that can into the clinic a few years back. End up putting a adjustable patten bar on him. Got to talk to the Farrier that put it on and He thought something was better than nothing. The bad part was that the shoe was actually digging into the ground every time the horse loaded it. This is one case that when getting in over your head or not being able to apply the proper shoe hurt more than it helped.

  • mmhorseshoeing replied to the topic Re: Shoes on the shop wall... in the forum.
It is something I started years ago; any one that has worked in the shop is welcome to hang up a shoe and card. I have shoes from as far away as Israel, California, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and North Dakota.
On the rail below the shoes is in part the wall of shame some of the things we have had to pull off. And I think the shoe you took a picture of was hung up over #%$@&** card as a joke not for sure will have to let them comment on that you know your card.

  • I want to thank everyone that showed up on such short notice next time I will try and set it up a month out. We had twenty farriers show up and Dr Virgin did a great job explaining the lower limb and I wanted to thank her. Jason the students from Five Star Farrier School did the hind leg Doc just did not talk on it other that touching on the differences.
