I'm the official farrier for the Mobile Mounted Mardi Gras School. :) I'm not getting paid any extra from the city. Just have been put in the publication for the out of town units to see. I'll be working the whole week at the city, then shoe after my shift if anyone needs anything. Or be called out if a shoe is lost on the street perhaps.

ooohhhh close enough! I would probably lose that 1/8" somewhere in the weld haha

Or you might gain depending how you weld

I gain since I still fight the bad habit of trying to kill the steel.

I am not sure how you measure the length vs the width. width I'm assuming is the widest point, but where do you measure the length? At the center of the toe back?

Plus nail pitch is critical when fitting these feet!

I agree and stated I left much to be desired on the pitch of the lateral side.

Cody, I punched a heel nail but when it came down to nailing it I declined because it looked rolled under too much for nailing.

Seth, you are correct that I use that pattern often. I'm trying to pay more attention to the foot so I can compliment it with the nailing as opposed to just using whatever.

Sorry I dont think that shoe will stay on for the whole cycle. The inside is fitted too wide with no boxing, nailing is weak on a hoof with poor quality horn and the shoe is too long and crushing the heels. The shoe is too tight on the frog.

It is a difficult hoof to work with in all fairness

Hoof wall was broke out on both sides, but worse on the lateral. I fit just a Tad more to the lateral and should have punched the toe nail courser. So definitely agree nails on lateral side are too low.

Medial nails are high in good solid wall and shoe is boxed on medial side.

The only benefit I see to certifying continuing education is to someone in a degree program, and something to point to if you're sued.

I'd have to agree at this point.

Mark, you talk about high quality basics. Would when to ask for x-rays be a basic as well?
Do you think some farriers wait to long to ask, and try to fix it without them?

My standards are simple. They are the same standards that any farrier here has.

Would be nice if it were as simple as just "asking for x-rays". I'd imagine it's not the farrier waiting too long or trying to work blind to prove a point.

Do you find clinching hard Kim?

Not normally, I didn't undercut these properly.

More or less was happy with the fit, dressing, and somewhat nail placement.

I know I have a lot to improve still. I'm trying to get there.
