Where we came from, and where we're going!
Since the very first Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association News
Bulletin was published, the Charlotte area farrier community has been a
prominent force in that national organization. Informally dubbed The North
Carolina Farrier Team, this group of farriers organized some of the first
big BWFA Horse owner Clinics and attracted national attention.
The North Carolina Farrier Team was called upon to organize
and host the first BWFA National Convention in 1992. Despite charging no
admission, this inaugural Convention at the Fletcher Agricultural Center near
Asheville, North Carolina, was the biggest and most successful BWFA Convention
ever.
In April 1994, three farriers and two horse owners organized a formal
Chapter of the BWFA. The North Carolina Farrier Team evolved
into the official Carolinas Chapter of the BWFA.
Wishing to broaden the association's scope beyond the Carolinas and open up
the possibility of forming relationships with other national organizations, the
Board
of Directors voted in April, 1996, to reorganize the
CCBWFA into Southeastern Horseshoers On Education.
(SHOE)
In August, 1996, SHOE applied for and was granted status as
the first local affiliated chapter of
The
Guild of Professional Farriers.
SHOE will continue the tradition of promoting continuing
education for working farriers, educating the horse owning public about the
essential role of the farrier in the upkeep of their horses, and organizing
events to bring the equine community together. Please
