The S.H.O.E. FALL Clinic 2003

This years fall clinic was held at New Salem Stables in New Salem NC, the owners are Dennis and Patty Reed. Each year they let us invaded there place and as always S.H.O.E. put on one whale of a line up. The Clinic started off with Karen Thomas and her Icelandic Horses, This was the first time most people in this area has seen this type of horse, They are a very nice breed and should do well in this part of the world. They were rode by Shirley Humphrey. These horses are small but hold up real well under saddle and with little weight, I got to ride one and they are some horse, although small they seem to ride like a big horse and carry the weight well Next up was Equine sport massage therapist Diane Franisco who help us all understand our horses better, she did a real fine job with the help of one of Pattys horses. This year we had a bad case of founder in a horse brought to us to work on, Farriers Randy Baker and Jeff Crane did a great job with this horse, he was walking a lot better after he was shod with bar shoes, The horse was real sore and didn't like the nail going into his hoof so Randy first foot was real hard, but it had to be done to help the horse, Gary Biggerstaff was watching and offer to help keep the horse quite for the farrier and after just a little work Gary had the horse standing good for Randy to get the much needed support shoe on. The bar shoes were just what the horse needed and there was a big different after the shoeing. Gary Biggerstaff was there and as always did a great job, Gary is a Advanced Equine Dental Technician and was helping us all learn more about the horses mouth, Gary also put in a horsemanship training clinic at the end of the day, it was something to see, Lunch time was the Raffle with lot of goodies Brandywine Stables 4H club The Young Riders keep us in good food and drink all day, and big thank you goes to Bob Peacock and Farrier Science for all the nice goodies they send down. Bio-Zin and Buck McColl and the gang, Pierce Farrier Supply, The B.W.F.A., Fairview Feed and Seed (Jeff), Woof N Hoof, E&E Feed, Rusty Spur, for all the help. And we could not do this without the help of Marcia & Randy Baker who put it all together and did all the work leading up to the clinic, Thanks also to Susan Keel and Johnna & Sara Prudhome, Caroline Von Stetten, for all of there help working the booth. It takes a lot of people and time and we are so lucky to have a great bunch of people working together. Hope to see y'all next year

Thanks Marcus J Pierce
