The M.E.F.A. Is Putting Forth a New
Face
In an effort to keep closer in touch with our
existing members and our new members, the MEFA has decided to issue a
bi-monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed of what the Association is
doing.
Our members are very important to us, and as we
continue to grow and develop as an Association, whether you are a farrier,
veterinarian or horse owner, we hope to be able to provide you with
opportunities and information that will allow you to become better educated
about the farrier industry.
This newsletter is your newsletter, and your input
is very valuable to us. If you have an issue you would like to address, an area
you feel would be of interest or importance to others, please feel free to
forward that information on to any one of the officers or directors. The more
we help each other, the greater our strides will be in the farrier
industry.
We hope you will read this newsletter and
encourage other farriers, veterinarians or horse owners to consider becoming a
member of the Association. The benefits of belonging to the M.E.F.A. far I
outweigh the costs of becoming a member, and we are sure that new members will
find this Association to be a strong, viable and sustaining
Association.
We look forward to your input and hope you will
all take an active interest in providing information that will benefit us all.
Thank you. -- Officers & Directors of the Mid-Eastern Farrier's
Association
from the Secretary...
The David Wilson Clinic was well attended even
with the snowy weather. I think everyone learned a new tip or two. Thank you to
Clemson's Haflingers for use of their fantastic facility. Also thanks to Rich
Petersen for organizing the clinic and also Bill McCain. The first day was on
draft horses and shoeing them for show and competition. Some excellent draft
shoes were made. Sunday, everyone worked on light horses and
forging.
Saturday afternoon a MEFA business meeting was
held. The change in the election rotation was approved. We will now vote
President and Treasurer one year and Vice-President and Secretary the next
year. The term will be two years. Directors will be voted in for three years,
with one going off and one voted in each year.
We have been asked if we could help at the AFA
convention. If you are planning to attend and would be able to help part of a
day, please contact Bill McCain at 814-756-0864. He will put you in touch with
the right person.
My apology for not thanking Steve Muir for
organizing the October clinic with Randy Luikart and Bobby Menker. I understand
the clinic went very well.
The Deb Bennett Clinic is being held January 17th
& 18th. Elections of MEFA officers and a business meeting will be held on
Saturday following the clinic. The clinic is being held at the Sheraton Inn in
Canton, Ohio, located at the Belden Village exit on 1-77. It should be an
excellent clinic and is open to anyone interested. We're hoping that lots of
you will have come with your families as there will be time to relax at the
indoor pool recreation area along with an informal family supper poolside. This
has been planned instead of the summer picnic in hopes. that more members will
be able to attend. As the clinic will have already been held at the printing of
this newsletter, we will report more on it in the next newsletter.
Please make note that Jon Adelsperger is now
handling the MEFA tape library, replacing Steve Muir. If any member is
interested in borrowing tapes from the MEFA library, please contact Jon at
614-678-2883.
Farrier Scholarship Still
Available
We still have available a scholarship to Pacific
Coast Horseshoeing School. Anyone interested should submit their request to
Bill McCain or any other member of the Board. Candidates will be screened by
several members of the Board. Upon completion of the course, the student will
report back to the Association.

Greg Shuttleworth will be handling the MEFA
T-Shirts If you would like to purchase a MEFA T-Shirt, please contact Greg at
