Attention all farriers: If you
need to complete a portion of your certification this will be the last
opportunity in the area for a quite some time. Mid-Eastern Farriers Association
will be holding a certification at the University of Findlay Equine Facility on
October 3rd. Written test, shoe board, and bar shoe will be offered for all
levels, but no practical examinations. The examiner is Bobby Menker, testing
will begin promptly at 10:00am. For more information contact Toby Burdett at
(740) 743-3099.
Congratulations to Brent Zimmerman who completed
the American Farriers Association Certified test, and to Mike Augenstein who
completed the A.F.A Certified Journeyman test. Both completed the test at the
certification in Beverly, OH sponsored by the Mid-Eastern Farriers Association
held in May.
Serenity Farms will be hosting a clinic September
27th and 28th. Keynote speakers will be Ryan Zimmerman D.V.M from Westview
veterinary center in Freemont Ohio, and Randy Luikart C.J.F from Mansfield
Ohio. For more information contact Deb DeHoff at (419) 833-1308 or
ddehoff4@amplex.net.
Presidents's Letter
AFA Certification (all levels) occurred for May
9-10 in Beverly, OH. Special thanks to Toby Burdette for coordinating the
event, to Mike Augenstein for arranging the horses and facility and to Richard
Becker for serving as the AFA Examiner. I went to Bishop Mule Days in Bishop,
CA May 22-27. They host a series of mule shoeing and forging classes and a mule
speed shoeing class. It was a fun time had by all.
Would any one be interested in holding a swap meet
this summer? Everyone could bring in tools or other items to sell or trade. If
you'd be interested in setting something up, let me know. This is just an idea
and I'm trying to see if there is any interest.
We are working on finalizing details for the 2003
Fall Contest/Clinic. Troy Price will be the Judge/Clinician. The event will be
held at the Findlay Equine Facility. Dates are October 3-5. Michael McNutt and
I are co-coordinating the contest. Call Michael at (740) 826-9919 for
details.
Russell and Judy Hite, the makers of Buddy Aprons,
will be attending the fall clinic at Findlay. They will have a trailer setup
for repairs or for custom chaps. If you have any chaps that need attention or
want some chaps custom made, stop by the contest. I hope everyone is
well.
