Bob Pethic

Those who were able to attend the January 14th MEFA clinic with Bob Pethic really got a treat. Pethic a New Jersey native spent several tours with the North American Horseshoeing team in the mid-eighties. Since then he has focused on building a successful shoeing practice along with trying to keep up with the ever-changing world of Equine research. Bob presented his research to an audience of sixty four attendees, an all time high for the January clinic since moving to the Fredricktown Veterinary Center. Bob utilized three programs for delivering an afternoon of pictures, video, and slow motion analysis. With PowerPoint Bob gave us a taste of a collection of pictures he has taken over the last few years which he estimates to be around four thousand pictures total. He also introduced many of the attendees to the world of Locomotion analysis with On- Track, and Equinalasis two programs designed analyzing digital video. These two programs allow the researchers to look at the video either in slow motion, or frame by frame. Bobs research was very interesting, well presented, answered questions about the way things work dynamically versus statically and raised lots more questions. Like he said a great “starting point,” these systems are becoming more affordable which is going to rocket the world of locomotion research in the next ten years..

Along with the clinic, MEFA conducted a membership meeting and election of officers. Offices up for renewal were President, treasurer, and one director. After four years of outstanding service to the association Steve Muir did not run for a third term. On behalf of all the members of Mid-Eastern we would like to extend our thanks to Steve and his wife Kris for all the time they have invested in this great association. Not just the last four years, but the fifteen prior to them (give or take). As much as we will miss Steve as president, we were able to find a very capable person to take his place. Bob Hawk C.F. from Geneva Ohio is our newly elected President. Hawk has a growing list of contributions to the association; the most recent was his seat on the board of directors. To take Hawks place on the board, long time member and past officer Jim Bondra C.J.F. of Westfield Center Ohio was elected. Finally, Mike Augenstein decided to stay on as Treasurer for another term. We certainly thank Mike for that.
